The short answer: The Florida Senior Games state finals run December 5 to 13, 2026, in Florida's Sports Coast (Pasco County). Anyone age 50 or older can compete. Many sports, including the 5K road race, are "open," which means you do not have to qualify first. For other sports, you qualify at a local games, where the top five finishers in each age group advance.
Who Can Compete
You must be 50 or older. Athletes compete against others in their own age group, so a 72-year-old is not racing a 52-year-old. Beginners are welcome. Many local games are friendly and social, and you can try a sport for the first time.
Open Sports: No Qualifying Needed
According to the Florida Senior Games, these sports are open to everyone who registers, with no qualifying performance:
- 5K Road Race
- Power Walk
- Cycling
- Archery
- Basketball Shooting
- Horseshoes
- Powerlifting
- Shuffleboard
If you walk the neighborhood every morning, the power walk and 5K are the easiest ways in.
Other Sports and How to Qualify
The state finals also include sports such as bowling (singles, doubles and mixed doubles) and team events like 3-on-3 basketball, softball and volleyball. For sports that require qualifying, you compete first at one of the roughly 21 local games around the state. The top five finishers in each age group move on to the state finals.
